RWM Exhibition a major success

Hot on the heels of the Anaerobic Digestion and Biogas Association (ADBA) exhibition in July, PROjEN have been astounded at the even bigger success of the Recycling and Waste Management (RWM) exhibition at Birmingham’s NEC held between 13th and 15th September. Over 4 Halls were dedicated to the recycling and waste management sector and PROjEN were exhibiting their wide range of services supplied to the Waste, Energy, AD/Biogas and the Process industries. The company’s stand was manned by members a number of PROjEN’s BioEnergy team, and was headed by PROjEN’s BioEnergy Divisional Manager, Shane Pugh.

Shane commented “I thought the ADBA exhibition was a fantastic experience where our clients identified our service as both more encompassing and a more pragmatic approach to AD/Biogas and general energy from waste solutions. However, the increased size of this exhibition and the greater visitor numbers was amazing. As I often say, Project Management is our day job and our 30 plus years of process plant design and build, coupled with our market leading AD/Biogas/Waste to Energy knowledge and our lack of ties to any particular technology has really touched a nerve with many. The act of completing the project on time, to budget, safely and utilising the best and most suitable technology available has been shown on many projects to be not as easy as many have claimed”.

During the show, the Company was able to discuss with clients all aspects of the design and build process including planning and permitting, detailed design, construction, commissioning and training aspects. As well as Project Management and Design and Build services, the company exhibited supplementary services such as DSEAR/ATEX support, Functional Safety, Laser Scanning/3D Visualisations and Hazop Chairing.

John Taylor, PROjEN’s Chairman commented “Unlike many new start-up energy companies we have been around since 1978 and have delivered thousands of successful projects in a variety of process and energy markets. Our reputation is second to none in both project delivery and health and safety and although there is always need for new blood in any industry, there has to be substance behind the claims. We were delighted to be at the show and to discuss the range of waste and energy to waste services we provide and we were really impressed with both the volume and quality of enquiries. Our experience, practical advice and non-political approach to business was something seen as different by many we spoke to. The seemingly ever increasing rises in fuel costs continues to raise the profile of our industry and we look forward to even more work in this essential market sector”.

PROjEN Ltd completes another successful project at GSK

PM PROjEN, a specialist engineering project management company, based in Preston Brook, Cheshire is pleased to announce the delivery of yet another successful project at GlaxoSmithKline’s Stevenage R&D Pilot Plant.  PROjEN have been providing a professional project management service for GSK since 2002 and been involved in the delivery of over 200 Capital Projects with a value in excess of £100 Million.

The successful ADAPT Laboratory project included the major demolition, remodelling and refit of a redundant process module to provide laboratory facilities over three floors. PROjEN worked closely with the end users to develop the most suitable layouts and then managed the installation of specialist laboratory equipment and multiple trades to provide the service infrastructure required to support all laboratory activities and safety requirements.

PROjEN acted as CDM Principal Contractor and delivered the project within both budget and schedule and equally importantly, with excellent Health & Safety performance to match all preceding projects completed on site. The benefit to the GSK business is an increase in available laboratory area and the ability to cross-fertilise both Laboratory and Pilot Plant working to reduce discovery time in the R&D Supply Chain, without increasing the overall footprint.

Dr Francois Ricard, GSK Technology Platform Leader said “I would like to thank the whole project team for a great job and all the hard work over the last few months in putting the lab and all its components together.  At the Lab opening ceremony it was clear to see not only what the lab offers to GSK drugs pipeline in term of new ways of working and innovation but also what good team work and empowerment, can deliver.”

Russ Harvey (GSK Programme Manager) also added “I would like to add my thanks to the PROjEN Project Team for the professional way this technically difficult project was successfully planned and executed.”

PROjEN’s Managing Director, Martin Seabrook comments:

“PROjEN is pleased to have been involved in yet another project at GSK.  Over the last 9 years the team has been party to numerous success stories and is regularly marked top in GSK’s table of service providers.  Like many projects I know this assignment was difficult but its success was the result of much hard work and commitment.  I’m particularly pleased that we maintained the high level of Health and Safety awareness on the projects we manage.  Our exceptional Health and Safety record of 10 consecutive RoSPA Gold Awards is the result of consistency across a number of sites”.

PROjEN raise money for a new decking area

PROjEN, the specialist engineering project management company, based in Preston Brook, Cheshire has worked closely with Halton Haven Hospice for over 12 months to raise money for a decking area. The Hospice provides a range of services aimed at supporting patients at different stages of their illness. Services include a day hospice, physiotherapy, complementary therapy and family support services. The decking area, set in the woodlands surrounding the hospice has been hailed a success by patients and families since its arrival a few weeks ago.

Shaun Pollard, Director of Corporate Services at the Hospice says, “This is an excellent example of local companies working with the Hospice to improve the service we offer our patients and their families. PROjEN have been fantastic partners to work with and the result is a wonderful area for people to relax in the peace and tranquility of our woodlands.”

Fundraising events including a sponsored bike ride, Christmas party raffles and second hand book sales as well as staff and company donations over the past year stacked up to a staggering £6,000. PROjEN then created a decking area, with seating facilities that will accommodate the patients and families who enter the Hospice.

Martin Seabrook MD said. “It is fantastic to see the level of support and commitment from everyone at PROjEN throughout the lifecycle of this great cause in both raising money to fund the project and co-coordinating the build. I am delighted with the amount of time and money PROjEN and its suppliers have donated towards such a worthwhile charity”.

A cheque was presented to the Hospice’s Director of Corporate Services, Shaun Pollard by Procurement Manager Mark Warrington and Chairman John Taylor from PROjEN.

PROjEN Ltd Launch new BioEnergy Website

Following the launch of their new BioEnergy Division, PROjEN have now introduced a new dedicated website which highlights the Company’s BioEnergy expertise in the planning, permitting, design and construction of facilities for the production of Biogas, by Anaerobic Digestion, Biomass, Bioethanol and Biodiesel. The decision to launch both the BioEnergy Division and its own website were natural progressions in the Company’s evolution following many years association with the general energy market.

PROjEN is based in Preston Brook and is a long established Project Management and Engineering business with an award winning reputation for the design and build of process plants which involve hazardous chemicals and gases. Using this experience as a base, the company has recruited a number of the UK’s leading BioEnergy experts and engineers who are responsible for the design and delivery of some of the UK’s most iconic BioEnergy projects.

The division is led by Shane Pugh who comments, “PROjEN’s wide extent of services are utilised in a variety of industries and we felt that those involved in sectors such as Anaerobic Digestion, Biogas and Biofuels etc would be better served by grouping all our activities in these markets under one roof. The BioEnergy website (<a href=”http://www.projenbioenergy.co.uk”>www.projenbioenergy.co.uk</a>) follows the same clean lines as our main website but provides a more focused site those just wanting to see our capabilities in this market.”

Working with Shane is leading BioEnergy expert Dr Les Gornall who has over 30 years’ experience of building, operating, designing and commissioning anaerobic digesters and waste water treatment plants. He has become an internationally recognised environmental consultant who has extensive experience in waste and biogas issues across the world.

Les comments, “Anyone visiting the website will be able to see our credentials and our awards and also brief descriptions of the key members of the team. It also shows that although specialists in a range of technologies, PROjEN remain ‘Technology agnostic’, i.e. not tied in to any specific manufacturer. This flexibility allows the design and build of facilities which exactly meet the client’s requirements and allows a more integrated approach to be taken by using a combination of technologies to form ‘Energy Centres’.”

PROjEN’s Managing Director Martin Seabrook comments, “Our share of the BioEnergy market and its importance to our business is growing rapidly which makes for extremely exciting times for PROjEN. This website is another tool we are using to increase our profile and follows on from our presence at the recent ADBA Exhibition and also the RWM exhibition being held at the NEC in September.”

PROjEN Ltd Advise on Fire and Explosion Hazards

PROjEN, a specialist engineering project management company, based in Preston Brook, Cheshire is pleased to announce that Alison McKay who is employed by PROjEN as a DSEAR/ATEX Consultant presented a paper at IChemE Hazards XX11 Symposium in April 2011. The paper has since been published in the June issue of the Loss Prevention Bulletin.

The Loss Prevention Bulletin is the major source of safety case studies for the process industries. We all acknowledge the importance of reporting incidents and near misses within our own companies – readers of the Loss Prevention Bulletin also gain the opportunity to learn safety lessons from other companies.

The paper ‘Fire and explosion hazards with thermal fluid systems’ aims to inform people about fires and explosions when handling heat transfer fluids. Any industry involved in heating fluids will benefit from this expert knowledge as such explosions have resulted in a number of deaths incurred when people don’t know how to handle them properly.

PROjEN has considerable experience in determining hazardous areas for a wide range of processes, including systems handling natural gas and using the recognised standards. PROjEN also has extensive experience of carrying out DSEAR Risk Assessments to determine the level of fire or explosion risk and making recommendations to reduce the risk.

PROjEN Anaerobic Digestion and Biogas exhibition

PROjEN’s attendance at the recent ADBA exhibition and conference at the Birmingham NEC has been hailed a great success by PROjEN BioEnergy Manager Shane Pugh. As well as exhibiting their wide range of services supplied to the AD/Biogas and the Process industries, the Company also contributed a number of papers to the conference and chaired some of the technical sessions.

Shane commented “we knew that we could offer clients a different and more pragmatic approach to AD/Biogas solutions but I was amazed at both the speed and the number of people who have recognised how our approach can help them. Project Management is our day job and our 30 plus years of process plant design and build, coupled with our market leading AD and Biogas knowledge and our lack of ties to any particular technology has really touched a nerve with many. The act of completing the project on time, to budget, safely and utilising the best and most suitable technology available has been shown on many projects to be not as easy as many have claimed”.

During the show the Company was able to discuss with clients all aspects of the design and build process including planning and permitting, detailed design, construction, commissioning and training aspects. As well as Project Management and Design and Build services the company exhibited supplementary services such as DSEAR/ATEX support, Functional Safety, Laser Scanning/3D Visualisations and Hazop Chairing.

John Taylor, PROjEN’s Chairman who attended both days of the exhibition, commented “Since 1978 we have been involved in thousands of projects and our reputation is second to none in both project delivery and health and safety. We were delighted to be at the show and found the number and quality of enquiries to be better than most other exhibitions we’ve experienced. The AD and Biogas industry has really raised its profile in the last couple of years and the number of installations is set to increase rapidly and justify those in ABDA, such as our Dr Les Gornall, who have worked so tirelessly over the years to establish AD as the ‘no-brainer’ solution to our energy and waste treatment needs”.

PROjEN Supports Noise Action Week

PROjEN, a specialist engineering project management company, based in Preston Brook, Cheshire is pleased to announce its support for Noise Action Week which took place on 23rd – 27th May. The company displayed posters, showed videos and carried out toolbox talks to promote the campaign both in the Head Office and on Client sites in order to raise awareness of the impacts of noise and to promote the simple measures that can be taken to prevent noise problems.

Noise Action Week is an annual initiative organised by the Environmental Protection UK, the environmental protection charity supported by pollution control professionals, which has been working for a cleaner, quieter, healthier world since 1898. The campaign aims to raise awareness about neighbourhood noise and the solutions available to tackle it. It gives everyone involved in managing noise problems the opportunity to focus public and media attention on the difficulties excessive noise can cause for us all.

Noise can cause disruption and distress to everyone – at home, at leisure, at work and at study. National research1 shows that two fifths of the population say noise affects their quality of life and in 2008 around half a million people (1%) said they had moved home because of noisy neighbours. This was more a problem in the private rented sector, where 4% said they had moved because of noisy neighbours.

During Noise Action Week everybody is urged to:

  • Consider the noise they make and the effect it has on others
  • Consider the noises that disturb them
  • Use practical solutions to everyday noise problems

PROjEN’s Managing Director, Martin Seabrook comments:

“PROjEN’s support for this campaign is testimony to the company’s ability to raise Health and Safety awareness on the projects we manage. PROjEN’s exceptional Health and Safety record is a welcome recognition of the hard work that has been made over recent years to raise the levels of Health and Safety across sites”.
