POLLUTION PREVENTION AND CONTROL (PPC)

Pollution Prevention and Control (PPC) (based on European Directive EC/96/61) is a regulatory regime for controlling pollution from certain industrial activities.

PPC covers businesses carrying out a wide range of specified activities including:-

Manufacturing and other industrial activities
Waste Management Activities
Intensive Farming
Activities involving Solvents

If your business is covered by the PPC regime you must have a PPC permit from your local environmental regulator and comply with the conditions that it contains.

PPC has also introduced the concept of Best Available Techniques (BAT) to Environmental Regulations.

Operators working within these industries might use BAT to control the pollution from their installations.
