  • Waste Water Treatment

The design and construction of wastewater treatment facilities is a service that we have provided for many years. Whilst we are familiar with all aspects of large wastewater treatment facilities we really specialise in bespoke systems designed to treat ‘industrial effluents’ at their source allowing our customers to reduce or even avoid costly disposal costs.

Our multidiscipline Energy & Environmental engineering team includes a number of recognised industry experts with the capability to assess and deliver wastewater process solutions including the design, commissioning operation and troubleshooting of effluent and sludge treatment plants for clients across all market sectors.

Our specialist knowledge covers a range of techniques and technologies, including:-

    • Anaerobic Digestion (AD)
    • Sequential Batch Reactor (SBR)
    • Membrane Bioreactor (MBR)
    • Fixed Film Bioreactor (FFB)
    • Digestate processing/treatment
    • Aerated tanks and lagoons
    • Rainwater management

    Specialist process/biological experience includes :-

    • Aerobic and Anaerobic biology
    • Denitrification
    • Hydrolysis
    • Activated Carbon
    • Settlement and filtration of suspended solids
    • Odour abatement
    • Filtering and Separation techniques
    • Bunding and associated water management

The majority of the business that contact us for help are focussed on their core production and see their Wastewater treatment facilities as a ‘necessary evil’ and as a consequence they often receive very little attention, leading to :-

    • Lower processing efficiencies
    • Higher energy costs
    • Wasted organics (which could be used to generate power)
    • Higher maintenance costs and poor availability
    • Higher waste disposal costs

However, waste treatment techniques have developed in recent years, and example being, small scale Anaerobic Digestion systems which are able to efficiently ‘harvest’ the organic content of waste streams and convert it to useable energy in the form of gas and/or electricity which can be used to power equipment on site. In addition, if the organic waste is from a renewable source then government sponsored financial incentives may be available, in the form of the Feed in Tariff (FIT) and/or the Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI). If so, these financial incentives are index linked and are payable for up to 20 years.

As with all our projects we can provide the services and knowledge required to develop the project through all phases right through to the provision of ongoing maintenance.

It is impossible to have a ‘one size fits all’ approach but a typical phase project development cycle might be as follows :-

    • Flow, load and efficiency surveys of effluent streams
    • Process appraisal, optimisation and troubleshooting (for an existing plant)
    • Optioneering to find the best treatment solution
    • Heat, mass and energy balances (where applicable)
    • Outline Process design
    • Full detailed design, procurement and installation of a treatment solution
    • On-site laboratory set up and training
    • One to One operator training and support
    • Ongoing maintenance.
