Sustainability
PROjEN offer a professional project management service ensuring industrial projects are sufficiently defined, financially justified, correctly resourced and managed – ensuring client project objectives are fully delivered and in a safe manner. Our people are based at client sites on a semi-permanent basis and supported by personnel from our head office.
It is through our project work rather than our own operations that we can more readily influence sustainable development. Production outputs from our office are mainly confined to computer or paper based information. We ensure through actions and measurement that we do whatever we can to minimise our own impact on the environment. However, it is at the client’s site through the design and construction work we do that we make the largest contribution.
Working in collaboration with clients early on and by adopting a life-cycle approach means that PROjEN help reduce costs, improve energy efficiencies, reduce waste and ensure legislative compliance across a wide range of industries – particularly with large multi-site organisations.
The diverse range of industries we serve allows greater cross fertilisation of ideas with non-competing organisations. We continually offer and provide BAT (Best Available Technique) processes to our clients - whether they be learned from another industry or from our internal procedures.
Recent projects which highlight these effects include the design and construction of a £17 million bio-diesel plant, a £15 million refurbishment to Buncefield recommendations (the first to be fully compliant in the UK) and the £5 million replacement of an R22 Chiller in a pharmaceutical environment. In addition to securing European Construction Institute Awards the expertise gained from the R22 replacement has lead to our endorsement of green refrigerant manufacturers as part of the "Wake Up to Phase-out Campaign". R22 is an ozone depleting compound and is subject to a world-wide ban very soon.
PROjEN have long been associated with the Energy sector and have been Carbon Trust accredited for a number of years. The company's BioEnergy Division is focused on the Renewables sector with a focus on those technologies and opportunities :-
- Which reduce the requirement for fossil based products
- Which make use of waste material otherwise sent to landfill at an ever increasing cost
- Which use technology which is proven but its application requires specialist design & implementation and a more holistic approach than currently seen
- Where the energy output can easily be utilised in existing infrastructure networks
- Where the ‘waste products’ of the process become a saleable item in themselves
Key areas in this sector
- Biofuels – bioethanol, biodiesel
- Biogas – produced from Anaerobic Digestion
- Biomass
- Organic Rankine Cycle Technology – electricity from waste heat
- Energy Centres – combining some or all of the above technologies alongside CHP systems
Through our initiatives and hard work PROjEN can confidently demonstrate its impact on society. These successes are reflected through improved business performance and are as a result of actions detailed within the Environmental, Social, and Economic dimensions as well as through Leadership and Management Innovation.
