What is Digital Photogrammetry and 3D Modelling?

Digital Photogrammetry is a technique where 3D space can be mapped accurately by the use of digital photography. Put more simply, Digital Photogrammetry is the process of gaining accurate dimensions of an area by measuring digital photographs.

3D Modelling uses the data captured via the Digital Photogrammetry process to create a photographic database of a plant. Displayed on Windows based software, it allows for all areas and angles of the plant to be viewed digitally.

3D modelling provides the facility to conduct feasibility studies, training and ergonomic observation, all without entering the plant. In addition it provides a versatile communication tool between owner, engineer and contractor throughout the life of a Project.

Why use Digital Photogrammetry and 3D Modelling?

Few businesses remain static and in order to stay competitive most processes and plants need to be improved/ changed over time, thereby requiring site adjustment/ overhaul.

How much easier would it be if you had 100% accurate site/ plant measurements and a means of modelling the installation of kit prior to an expensive shutdown? How much more accurate would your project plans/ programmes be if you could identify problems and solve them prior to shutting down the plant and or exposing manpower to hazardous conditions?

How can Digital Photogrammetry and 3D Modelling help you?

Digital Photogrammetry and 3D modelling techniques are highly portable/ versatile and extremely cost effective where:

  • P&ID’s are out of date or simply inaccurate.
  • There are areas of highly congested piping
  • There are plant items that could be missed using Laser Scanning techniques
  • Manual measurement is difficult/ hazardous
  • Dimensional accuracy is critical

Where can Digital Photogrammetry and 3D Modelling be used?

Digital Photogrammetry and 3D Modelling uses are endless. Our current clients within the Plant, Mechanical, Architectural and Civil Engineering markets are reaping project time and cost benefits of proposed changes/ additions by using Digital Photogrammetry and 3D Modelling.

Digital Photogrammetry will also capture objects that are transparent as well as solid; glass condensers for example pose no problem.

Key Benefits of Digital Photogrammetry and 3D Modelling for your Organisation

Improvements, changes are the key to your company’s competitiveness. By using Digital Photogrammetry you will gain:

  • Accurate 3D Modelling of built design/ plant
  • Visualisation of the area, allowing for easier design/ planning and scheduling
  • Real life simulation, allowing for identification and resolution of problems
  • Reduced manpower exposure (hazardous environments)
  • Reduced shutdown time
  • Overall a reduction in project cost
