PROjEN and their “Italian Job!”

PROjEN, the award winning Project Management Company based in Cheshire have been working a little further a field recently, Ravenna in Italy to be precise.

PROjEN engineers were contracted by Cabot Carbon to provide engineering expertise at their Italian Ravenna Site which is on the Adriatic Coast.

PROjEN has a long history of working with Cabot Carbon, but usually in the UK at their Ellesmere Port Site. Cabot Carbon’s Management approached PROjEN to assist at the Italian site as they were very impressed with PROjEN’s past work and required their expertise in carrying out major modifications to two of their Carbon Black Manufacturing Lines.

The project has been fast tracked to 2010 and is a high priority to Cabot Carbon with Carbon Black being the core ingredient used in Tyre Manufacture; so it is essential that the line modifications are carried out in a timely manner so not to interrupt supply.

The modifications will require engineering expertise from process, electrical and mechanical backgrounds and the team involved in this assignment include PROjEN’s Martin Slaney as Project Manager, John Sweetingham as Lead Process Engineer, Martin Briggs Lead ECI Engineer and Dave Mairs as Technical Expert.

PROjEN have already completed Phase II of the project and are now in the process of preparing a quote for the Front End Engineering, and if successful, they anticipate starting Phase III in July 2009 with a completion date due for October 2009.

Speaking today Dave Mairs, PROjEN’s Engineering Manager commented “it’s not often that we work outside of the UK, but in this case it is a compliment to our past works at Cabot’s Ellesmere Port site that we were contacted re this assignment. We are preparing for Phase III of the assignment now and it’s surprising just how many of our engineers are interested in lending a hand, it must be their interest in Carbon Black and certainly not the location of the assignment!
