PROjEN Professionals Attend Hazard Ex 2009

Two of PROjEN’s expert engineers have recently attended the Hazard Ex 2009 event held at the Majestic Hotel in Harrogate.

The conference which took place in February 2009 and lasted 2 days was attended by Shane Pugh and Martin Briggs, PROjEN’s Compliance Manager and EC &I Section Head respectively.

The event brought together some of the leading lights in the areas of ATEX & Functional safety along with representatives from the HSE. Through technical papers and general networking it provided the ideal opportunity to gain additional knowledge of the various elements of their research. Papers such as “Understanding the mechanics of a unconfined gas and dust cloud explosions”, “Equipment protection levels in the hazardous area standards” and “Designing and operating hazardous area plant and legacy systems to IEC 61508” were amongst those delivered.

Although PROjEN did not present at the event, they were pleased that most of the findings delivered were not new to them and in fact techniques were already being incorporated through their own service delivery.

After the event, Martin Briggs EC&I Section Head commented “It is always good to mix with engineers working in the same field and to exchange ideas and practical experiences while at the same time using the conference to keep up with current and pending changes to standards. Shane (Pugh) and I are already looking forward to next year’s event and hope to present our own paper, sharing our expertise with the groups.”
